COMPOSITE STRUCTURE FOR APPLICATIONS IN OCEAN ENERGY CONVERTERS

ABSTRACT

As a civilization we are pushing for carbon free energy, and ocean energy extraction is a pertinent up and coming technology to help us achieve this goal. It has been shown that ocean energy conversion is feasible, and modern composite materials allow for great strength and great corrosion resistance in this application.

Our project's focuses on manufacturing, assembly and testing of a composite pressure vessel whose application is housing an ocean energy converting machine. Our group proposes a vacuum bagged resin infusion glass fiber composite structure with design aided by finite element analysis, as well as 3D printed mold manufacture. We will then assemble and test our product to insure water tightness and pressure resistance.
